CLIENT // PROFILE

ALL THE WAY
MAERSK

The company is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, with subsidiaries and offices across 130 countries and around 80,220 employees in 2018. Maersk is the world’s biggest container shipping company. The moto of the company is ‘All The Way’, and this is because they support the entire supply chain from door to door. We have been invited to film their logistics center in Hong Kong. We loved to work with them because we saw a progressive spirit from the initial stages of the film’s development.

WHAT IS AT STAKE

THE STORY

The video is about a significant element of the warehouse with automation equipment. This initiative stands as a pilot program and a key milestone for Maersk, in some way, it showcases the future of their operation. The video has been made with a documentation approach, as the primary goal was to express the actual work warehouse ethics while visualizing the future of their operations, and benefits to the clients. The films aim to have a fine balance between strong visuals and direction, together with a documentary angle.

Size and Processes

Warehouse

One of the opportunities and challenges that we faced during the video’s production days was about the strategy to showcase to the audience the size of this warehouse. At the pre-production stage, and more specifically during the storyboard elaboration of the film, we developed several visuals allocated to wide-angle shots and a long camera movement moving through space.

Robotics are here.

AUTOMATION

With the automation now playing an increasing role in this warehouse operation, we had to carefully pass the message of better efficiency and security, making the AGV, the robot, supporting the people. The challenge was to embrace the operators and the robots at a balanced level, working in synergy.
SCANNING PROCESS //

FOCUS SHOTS

Behind big operations, what makes the difference are the small and essential details. We had to bring to the screen these details that make the difference at Maersk Logistic of Hong Kong.

Scanners

Every parcel arriving at the logistics center will pass through scanners to get tracked anytime until it leaves the warehouse. We used a macro lens and slow-motion capture for having material on post to support a scene with fast cuts editing giving a glance to this process within seconds.

SYNCHRONISZED MOVEMENTS

THE STORY OF AUTOMATION

The opening of the film symbolizes the arrival of the AGV automation to Maersk, while it also gives a clear sense to the viewers about what is at stake in this video. We had to try and error for being able final to synchronized together with these robotics.

VISUALIZING THE SPEED

One of the main selling points of the use of AGV robotics is efficiency through speed. At the film’s conceptualization, it was clear and important to our team that we had to visualize the promise of this technology.

WAREHOUSE ON SCREEN

With these types of scenes, we aimed to balance space and capacity along with people and processes. On-location we used wide-angle lenses and extreme macros to capture the massive capacity and dedicated details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to our most commonly asked questions about our Video Productions.

What is Visual Suspect?

It is a multi-awarded company, with global experience, with strong interest in technology.

What is the process?

There are three steps to make a video: pre-production, production, and post-production. In essence, each step is crucial. Pre-production includes a site visit, concept development, and shooting list, together with paperwork and casting. Production is about filming, from conventional to aerial, exterior to interior, with or without talents, and sometimes uses specialized equipment such as zipline or remote-controlled cars. Post-production is about bringing all elements together in seamless manners to make a unique video coming to life.

What is the budget?

There are many elements impacting a budget, including the number of filming locations, the amount of shooting days, production timeframe, loading, etc. Whether you share the range, you are comfortable spending on production, or you ask the production house to provide you a quote, this subject should come early in the conversation, ensuring everyone is on the same page.

Where is Visual Suspect based?

Visual Suspect has been founded and is based in Hong Kong.

How long does it take?

From several days until several months, the overall timeframe can significantly vary. The components impacting the duration are the time allocated to the pre-production, and make sure to plan enough time for this stage, as it represents the foundation of the final video. Then during the production, the shooting duration will mainly depend on the number of locations and countries. And finally, about the post-production, while the first cut generally comes in a short time after the end of the shooting, the revision process will be decisive.
